Apple iPhone SE2 could be in the works; might release next year

We buried the hatchet last year when Apple confirmed that there’s no iPhone SE 2 which ended year-long rumors about Apple working on a next-generation LCD-clad iPhone SE 2 that never took off. After everyone in the tech community moved on with other smartphones and iPhones, the latest report by Nikkei has reignited the rumors that indeed Apple could launch a low-cost iPhone SE 2 to arrive next year if it exists.

Nikkei points out how smartphone brands like Xiaomi, Huawei, Samsung, and others took over competitive smartphone markets like India and China, the two largest markets where Apple has still suffered to make a dent. Having a low-cost iPhone with updated specifications could reignite the lost galore amidst Apple lovers in both the markets because we know they are there, the point is they can’t or won’t buy an expensive iPhone when they can have the same tech in other smartphones.

Talking about the details, neither the name aka iPhone SE 2 has been finalized and neither the price but we surely know that it could mimic the iPhone 8 released back in 2017 along with iPhone X. The upcoming low-cost iPhone SE 2 is likely to get a larger 4.7-inch low-cost LCD display although without Face ID which is very expensive although it could have a Touch ID from Apple but hey, these are just specks of information that has spread across the internet so we aren’t sure yet.

The phone is expected to come up with a single-lens rear camera as it was before while it will have a 128GB of storage although it remains to be confirmed if there will be only one storage variant i.e. 128GB or if there are others available as well.

Finally, the price is another thing that we aren’t aware of yet. The iPhone SE was launched in March 2016 at a price tag of $399 which was more than half of what flagship iPhones were released the same year. Apple sold over 40 million units before discontinuing it later last year. The Verge points out that Apple should target a $299 price tag to compete against its competitors in the mid-range category in India.
